Mapping Your Governing System
Companion to The Anatomy of Autonomy
A 56-page fillable workbook for applying the Autonomous Governing System to your own experience.
What This Workbook Does
The Anatomy of Autonomy develops a theory of self-government under coercive control. Mapping Your Governing System is its applied companion.
The workbook asks you to select one period of your life and examine it across the seven domains of the Autonomous Governing System: Perception, Meaning, Decision, Agency, Identity, Future Orientation, and Autonomy.
You work from specific situations rather than broad conclusions. The exercises separate what you perceived, what you wanted or concluded, what you expected would happen, and what you ultimately did. From there, you can examine where your own judgment remained governing, where legitimate responsibilities or circumstances affected a decision, and where another person's anticipated response may have acquired influence.
By the end, you will have completed a Governing System Map, a Governing Record, a Governing Question, and your own Personal Findings.
There is no score to reach and no conclusion you are required to produce. The purpose is to make the structure visible enough for you to examine it accurately.
It assumes you are the authority on your own experience; its purpose is to give that experience a structure precise enough to examine.
The seven domains you map
- 01PerceptionWhat you notice, and what information receives your attention.
- 02MeaningWhat you understand those things to signify.
- 03DecisionWhat happens between possibility and action.
- 04AgencyYour capacity to act, and what it was being used to accomplish.
- 05IdentityWhich parts of you had room to be expressed through your actual life.
- 06Future OrientationWhat you can imagine, and organize present behavior toward.
- 07AutonomyThe integrated question the first six lead to: who, or what, held legitimate governing authority.
Mapping Your Governing System is an educational resource developed within the Restored Autonomy framework. The Autonomous Governing System is a proposed theoretical framework for examining self-government under coercive control. This workbook is not a clinical assessment, psychotherapy, individualized medical advice, or legal advice.
